I prefer original art because it's personnal, it's more interesting than fan art.

Well, I voted original art. But something seems wrong, because you get more views, faves and all with fan art. And that's weird, because the majority seems to appreciate original art more... So how many are lying? :P

I love creating my own worlds, and interpretations of the world I see, far too much to even look at very much fan art these days. So I chose original. I don't really understand why some people who are so talented will write, paint, or draw about someone else's creation. Why not use your talents to bring your own characters to life? Instead of borrowing someone else's view, why not paint the world as YOU see it? There is only one DaVinci, one Tolkien, one J.K.Rowling. They created their work based on how they see the world, and brought their own characters and creations to life. Fan art is great for fun, but it is simply an echo of someone else's thoughts. Why not bring more of yourself into your work?

its the Quality that i care about most. in a head-to-head compare between two identical in quality art pieces i choose fan art first,{immediately and then longterm}, and then original art work{Mid-term, maybe longterm}

I would like the fanart more,(because i Know the Characters/plot/Behind the scene's, better) except that generally i have more fun finding out about original characters

I like both, but here on dA I tend to drift towards fanart because a) I'm familiar with the characters/world, and b) oftentimes, I find that artists here don't put up enough info about their original stuff for me to decide if I like it.

As an artist, I generally find original art to be more engaging & rewarding than art based on pre-existing characters. There is fan art that is mindblowing, but there's something more personal & satisfying about creating art from your own imagination. Even if it's inspired by pre-existing concepts, it's the variations and other personal touches an artist puts into their worlds & characters that make them stand out. With originally created art, the artist has more of a stake in it. I've created fan art before, but I'd much prefer to create my own characters and worlds.

neither. both and either at the same time. it depends entirely on what the subject matter is, and how well it is portrayed... i have seen some pretty brilliant fan art on here, and when i came to DA i was like "copying should be illegal" but i get it these days, they are amazing art in their own right, recreating characters with rules applied means more imagination has to go into how you will make it look your own and yet still instantly recognisable.
on the other hand, being original and creating with your imagination from scratch is so much fun and tendds to give a lot more surprises:) i cant vote but i sure will speak up for all these great artists on DA. yay to all! well done:)

Original Artwork is often more satisfying to experience, and certainly usually a lot more interesting, however, good fanart can change the way one sees a story,

both can be brilliant, but an original shows the soul and the heart of an artist
